Support Live Comedy Association

We need your support to continue fighting for live comedy. It’s time to Stand Up And Give.

The Live Comedy Association has been working to represent our 1800 members and lobby government and other policy makers to recognise what we all do and seek support for everyone working in live comedy.

We often refer to ourselves as people who give a sh!t about live comedy.  If you also give a shi!t, then please consider how you can support us.

We are definitely making progress but can’t do this alone.  We need support from the sector to continue and build on the wins we have already had.  We have huge aspirations and ambitions to support you more but need to work together to level the playing field.  Our aim is to make sure live comedy is supported and valued alongside other arts such as live music, theatre, dance, spoken word and visual arts.

We want to ensure membership of the LCA is free to everyone so don’t want to introduce a membership fee when people join.  What this means is we need to ask for voluntary contributions.  There are various ways in which you can help:

One off donation or regular donation
You can make a donation HERE. You can make a one off donation, or set up a regular donation.

Donate a gig
Consider donating the profit you make from one of your shows/year to the LCA.  This could be your profit on a fee, the profit from producing a show, the average amount you receive as an agent/manager or the average profit your venue/festival generates from a show.  You can donate this money HERE

£1 ticket levy
Live music gigs at arenas (capacities of 5,000 or more) are now making a voluntary donation of £1 ticket to support grassroots music.  We want to have a similar scheme for live comedy to support those working hard to develop and support the next generation of comedians and develop communities and improve mental health.  Get in touch to discuss further.

Donate tickets
We will be running exclusive prize draws via our website and crowd funding platform to help raise money.  If you have a “money can’t buy” offer (tickets, hospitality, meet & greets) then get in touch so we can offer these to the general public and help raise funds.

Become a partner
There are a variety of businesses who benefit from associations with live comedy.  If your business is one of these, get in touch about how we can help raise your profile, and demonstrate your CSR to the comedy community.  Email us for a chat.

Over the last year or so, with very limited resources, the LCA has:

-          Carried out the first survey of the live comedy sector to assess the size and impact of what we do, in partnership with Centre for Comedy Studies Research (Brunel University)

-          Published a survey report at the Live Comedy AGM in February 2025

-          Been interviewed in media including The Observer, Times Radio, The Independent, various BBC local radio and Matt Forde’s The Political Party podcast

-          Held regular online members meetings

-          Promoted online workshops about how to get funding

-          Lobbied DCMS select committee to recognise live comedy and spoke at evidence meeting in Parliament

-          Sent submission to Labour party national policy forum

-          Set up an Advisory Panel with 20 representatives working with live comedy

-          Received some donations and financial support from Brunel University, LCB Depot (Leicester), Frog & Bucket (Manchester), Edinburgh Fringe Society

We will be repeating the live comedy survey again and publish the results in 2026.  We want to develop the training and development workshops for members, broaden the amount of lobbying we can do, and raise the profile of the live comedy sector.  We are also putting together a plan to promote a national day celebrating live comedy.  We are in the process of developing some funding applications but these take time to put together and are not guaranteed.

We can’t do this alone.  Thank you for any support you can give.
