LCA becomes first live comedy organisation to join Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority

The Live Comedy Association (LCA) has become the first organisation from the live comedy sector to become a member of the Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority (CIISA), marking a significant step towards improving standards and safeguarding across the UK comedy industry.

The LCA has registered with CIISA, the independent, industry-backed standards authority for the UK’s creative industries, which works to establish consistent expectations of behaviour and support accountability when those standards are not met.

CIISA is currently operating across music, film, television and theatre, and its work is focused on preventing harm and creating safer, more professional working environments across the creative industries.

By becoming a CIISA member, the LCA is committing to supporting and promoting the organisation’s standards across the live comedy sector and helping ensure that issues around behaviour, respect and professional conduct are taken seriously.

The LCA will also have access to CIISA’s Registrants Hub, which will provide organisations with e-learning materials, introductory training, sector-specific guidance and practical checklists. Further resources include self-assessment tools, peer learning networks and CIISA-supported assessments.

Registered organisations will also be included on a publicly available CIISA Register of organisations committed to its standards, which is due to be published later this year.

The LCA will work with CIISA to promote awareness of its standards and resources among comedians, promoters, producers, venues and other professionals working across live comedy.

The move forms part of the LCA’s wider work to improve working conditions, professional standards and support for people working in the UK live comedy industry.
